In Skala Eresos — the birthplace of Sappho, ancient Greece’s most celebrated poet — a poetry group gathers. Founded in September 2024 by filmmaker and host Rolo Torres, the group brings together a diverse community of locals, travellers, and visitors from around the world, united by a shared connection to verse, voice, and this legendary place.
Does Sappho Know? is a 17-minute, 05-second documentary that captures the spirit of these sessions across different themes and gatherings, held at the iconic Sappho Palace.

The Filmmaker
Born in Barcelona, Rolo Torres has lived between Spain and the UK before finding a second home in Skala Eresos, Greece — the birthplace of Sappho.
It was this place, and Sappho’s enduring legacy, that inspired Rolo to create something where none existed: a poetry group open to anyone drawn to the island and its spirit. What began as a simple idea in September 2024 grew into a living, breathing community — and eventually, into a film.
Does Sappho Know? is Rolo’s debut short documentary — a love letter to poetry, to Sappho, and to the community that gathered in her name.
